This new work from Mark Ryden offers a concise study of the life and career of the American artist. The book is entitled Pinxit – a play on a Latin phrase meaning ‘he painted this,’ and boasts a bold pink cover. Two editions will see publication; a run of 50 for the “Art Edition” priced at $6,000 USD and a run of 1,000 for the “Collector’s Edition” priced at $1,000 USD. The former more limited edition includes the addition of a signed silkscreen painting recently featured at Miami Art Basel.
Pinxit, whose title refers to the Latin term meaning “painted by,” is organized by the themes of Ryden’s major exhibitions—The Meat Show, Bunnies & Bees, The Tree Show, and so on—and includes collected essays by Yoshitomo Nara, Carlo McCormick, and others, and a new essay by culture critic Kristine McKenna. Ryden’s paintings and drawings are reproduced using the finest technique available, and over a dozen of the paintings are foldouts that open to a staggering 150 cm (59 inches) across.
